Larry Gourdine

Associate Dean and Director of Student Assistance and Support Services

I proudly serve as your Associate Dean and Director for Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS). My responsibilities include providing overall leadership and administrative oversight for SASS. Additionally, I work directly with students experiencing a broad range of issues interfering with their ability to be successful academically, socially and personally by connecting students to support services; provide assistance and support to faculty seeking help regarding a student issue or concerning student behavior and; support to parents and family members seeking help on behalf of their student(s). 

I graduated from Murray State University with an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education and Masters degree in Public Health with a concentration in Gerontology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Prior to working at UNC Charlotte, I have had the privilege and honor of serving students at the University of Georgia, North Carolina State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 

Kristan Holzman

Assistant Director for Withdrawal Services

Kristan Holzman serves as the Assistant Director for Withdrawal Services. Kristan received her Bachelor's degree in Communications from Western Carolina University and her Masters in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. Before coming to UNC Charlotte, Kristan worked at the University of South Carolina-Columbia for five years. Her work experience includes working in University Housing and Student Conduct and Academic Integrity. When she isn't working she enjoys reading a good book, catching up on TV shows, and hanging out with her family. She can be reached at

Katie Russo

Assistant Director for Case Management

Katie Russo serves as the Assistant Director for Case Management. Katie received her Bachelors degree in History from UNC Greensboro and her Masters of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from Virginia Tech. After graduate school, Katie worked at Virginia Tech's Steger Center for International Scholarship in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland, for two years. She also served as a Residential Learning Coordinator in Housing and Residence Life at Virginia Tech. Before coming to UNC Charlotte, Katie served as an Assistant Director in Community Standards at the University of Connecticut, where she had experience with conduct, care team, and Title IX. In her free time, Katie enjoys reading, traveling, playing volleyball, and hanging out with her family and friends. She can be reached at

Kaitlyn Draughn

Administrative Support Associate

Kaitlyn Draughn serves as the Administrative Support Associate for the Office of Student Assistance and Support Services.  Kaitlyn received her Bachelors degree from East Carolina University in Family and Community Services with dual concentrations in Family Studies and Child Development/Early Intervention.  She brings with her three and a half years of experience working in the Dean of Students Office and the Office of Student Transitions at East Carolina University along with a passion for helping others.  In her free time she likes to surround herself with family and friends, hangout with her pets, and catch up on all her favorite Netflix shows.  She can be reached at
